In an environment which is demanding more frequent change in order to remain competitive, at what point should you be able to challenge change and how do you do so in order to create constructive conflict?
Change is more or less inevitable, but I often hear stories of people being told “not to fight it”. I begin every day by asking myself a question, “What is the simplest change I can bring to benefit my client?” Most of the time, it is not hard to determine the answer. But the real challenge is to make it happen.
As an Agile consultant, our expertise in Agile and technology can help us to gain initial acceptance, but we do need softer skills (such as persuasion, facilitation, problem solving etc.) to have a continuous impact. We must also be able to combine these with human values like trust, respect, honesty to make lasting change.
I visualize successful change as being in the “sweet spot” where Expertise, Skills and Human Values converge.

“Good design thinking was a key reason for Singapore’s successful journey from third world to first, and it will be critical in the country's future transformation, for it to remain an outstanding city in the world.” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Singapore University of Technology and Design’s (SUTD) first Ministerial Forum. PM Lee explained that design is a core element of Singapore’s nation-building, and “nothing we have today is natural, or happened by itself.”
